Alleged Father | DNA Testing Glossary

The alleged father is the man whose biological relationship to a child is being tested in a paternity case. The term is used in laboratory reports and legal documents because, until the test is complete, his status as the biological father has not been confirmed or ruled out. It is a neutral, standard term — not a judgment. After testing, the alleged father is either included (confirmed as the biological father with a probability of 99.99% or higher) or excluded (ruled out with a probability of 0%). In cases where the alleged father is unavailable for testing — due to absence, refusal, or death — indirect testing through his parents or siblings may be used as an alternative.
