Avuncular DNA Test | DNA Testing Glossary

An avuncular DNA test (also called an aunt/uncle DNA test) determines whether a biological relationship exists between a child and an alleged aunt or uncle. It works on the principle that full siblings share approximately 50% of their DNA, so an aunt or uncle will share a predictable amount of genetic material with their sibling's biological child. Families often choose this test when the alleged father is unavailable and a sibling of the alleged father can be tested instead. Like other indirect relationship tests, including the mother's sample improves the accuracy of results. US Diagnostics Center offers a home aunt/uncle DNA test kit.
